On August 20th, Green Screen Toronto Founding Member FILMPORT STUDIOS was officially opened for business. Home to North America's largest purpose-built sound stage covering a massive 46,000 sq. ft., FILMPORT also has taken a lead role in greening Toronto's film production community by taking the following measures:
1. Modern technologies are used to control power consumption by using high-efficeincy lighting with motion sensor controls and exterior lights on photocells.
2. Stormwater run-off is filtered through bio-swales. Separate collection systems for clean roof-water.
3. Sophisticated waste recycling systems of wood and metal from used film sets, the composting of food waste and the collection of surplus paint products for the manufacture of recycled paints.
4. The buildings are well insulated with energy efficient windows which will help regulate interior climates along with other technologies.
5. Flat rooftops of the sound stages will become fields of solar panels.
6. Surrounding FILMPORT will be natural spaces and a public promenade along the ship channel.
7. Public transit will link with Union Station and bicycle lanes will share part of Commissioners Street.
