Carlo Petrini
Born in Bra, Italy in 1949, Carlo Petrini has profoundly articulated and re-shaped our contemporary understanding of food, its production and its inter-relationship with the environment and our well-being.
He has shepherded, since the 1980’s, what has become known as the worldwide Slow Food movement that is re-evaluating agriculture, food production, distribution, preparation and consumption methods, placing food at the centre of human activity. Petrini is also the founder of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo and Colorno in Italy and the author of Slow Food Nation: Why Our Food Should  Be Good, Clean, And Fair (2007). In 2004 he was named a 'European Hero' by Time Magazine; and
in January 2008, The Guardian named him as the sole Italian to appear on a list of  "50 People Who Could Save the World". In October 2008, Carlo Petrini was also awarded the Planet in Focus International Eco Hero Award for his outstanding leadership and lasting contribution to environmental awareness, action and change on the international stage.
